NMR Shoulder Workshop
The soft-tissue injury solution Neuromuscular Reeducationsm (NMR) is a stand-alone, hands-on technique for the evaluation and functional treatment of over 90% of the soft tissue injuries you will see in practice. At this workshop, Dr Levy will teach and demonstrate the NMR shoulder protocol – which, if learnt well, can be used to build an extraordinarily successful practice. Learn how to heal patients faster, charge more for your skills, and significantly increase your practice. At the workshop, Dr Levy will:
About Dr Levy Dr. Peter Levy is a chiropractor who spent from 1980 until 1991 studying and using any and all of the soft tissue techniques and therapies he could find in his search for speedy and thorough results for soft tissue injuries. As he is quick to say, “I’m certain there is a place for ultra sound, interferential current and muscle stim etc., but I can unequivocally state that I can do more with my hands in a shorter time than with almost any piece of equipment or other technique.” Dr. Levy ran a successful practice in Santa Barbara for 11 years until he saw an advertisement for a seminar given by Dr. Gary Glum, D.C., the developer of Neuromuscular Reeducationsm. He took the four-day intensive seminar for $2500.00 and never looked back. Once he had mastered the technique he sent out a letter to his entire patient base, which said: “…for those of you who thought I was a good, effective practitioner to start with I have something better. To those of you who felt I was average and didn’t quite handle all of your musculoskeletal problems and for those of you who just didn’t like my work/results I have a challenge/offer: Come in and let’s discuss your problem. We’ll mutually agree on a given number of visits. If, by the end of those visits, you (not me) don’t think you are enough improved to make it worth your while to be coming in…the treatment is free…on me…no charge…zip…nada…nothing.” Who do you think could refuse an offer/challenge like that? 43 inactive patients responded within 2 weeks. A total of 118 people responded to his letter over the next 90 days. Only 3 people out of all those people who responded told him the treatment hadn’t made a difference in any way (he says he could have predicted those three with a moment’s thought…and it wouldn’t have mattered if 20 people didn’t pay.) His practice was transformed overnight! The bottom line was that he had a wealth of new patients paying cash. He had an entirely new referral-based, “waiting-list” practice and had a confidence that was unshakable based on knowledge, results and satisfied patients. Shortly thereafter, Dr. Glum, intent on retiring from active practice, was so impressed with Dr. Levy’s skills that he hand picked him to carry on the teaching of Neuromuscular Reeducationsm. Dr Peter J. Levy is the only approved instructor for Neuromuscular Reeducationsm Seminars in the Health Science Post-Graduate Education Department of the University of Southern California. Dr Heidi Haavik: Chiropractor, Researcher and Author of 'Reality Check', - 15th December 201526/11/2015
Dr Heidi Haavik is coming to McTimoney College of Chiropractic, Abingdon
Tuesday 15th December 2015 Session One: The Science of the Subluxation 1 - 4pm £15 This session will cover, in a fun and entertaining way, the latest scientific understanding about the function of the spine and its impact on brain function. The complex neurophysiology will be presented in an easy to understand and clinically practical manner for students and DCs, with a particular focus on what this research tells us about the impact of the vertebral subluxation on CNS function. Dr Haavik will discuss why it’s important that our chiropractic students learn about this new understanding. Heidi will also discuss why it is so vital that our chiropractic-relevant clinical researchers take note of these basic science findings. Heidi will translate for you a variety of very relevant studies (covering both clinical and basic science research, and the difference between them). Session Two: How to Communicate the Science of Chiropractic 6 - 9pm £15 This session will focus on the clinical manifestations of vertebral subluxations and the science behind this. Dr Heidi Haavik will take a closer look at some of the basics of scientific investigation and translate the relevant neurophysiological studies as well as some important clinical studies and will highlight what it means for our patients. Dr Haavik will also discuss what we now know about the actual mechanisms of the adjustment (how adjusting subluxations actually improves CNS function). The research tells a story that is similar to the old historic theories, but with a subtle – and very important – twist to it. Dr Heidi Haavik will clarify what we as chiropractors can and cannot claim to help you thrive in an evidence informed world. Heidi will translate for you a variety of very relevant studies (covering both clinical and basic science research, and the difference between them). Or both sessions £25
All are welcome, Students and Chiropractors alike.

Michelle Barrow: The future of personalised nutrition
Michelle achieved a first class degree in Nutrition Therapy from the Centre for Nutrition Education and Lifestyle Management (CNELM), a Master’s degree in Evidence Based Practice in Nutrition from Middlesex University and became a qualified teacher in the lifelong learning sector. From 2006 Michelle led the level 6 undergraduate module in Nutrition and Disease and then went on to lead the Clinical Training and Nutrition and Environment modules at CNELM. Michelle is now the Head of Education at CNELM and leads the Personalised Nutrition and Longevity module on the MSc which focuses on the potential impact of genetics and how diet, environment and lifestyle might impact on gene expression. In 2012 Michelle started a doctorate (DProf) at Middlesex University. Her research project aims to develop clinical tools for personalised nutrition practice in obesity management. These tools will collect health data, from an obese population and statistically analyse the effect of changing variables (diet, supplements, sleep, stress etc.) on health. The data from these tools may allow for the development of a new, case by case, evidence base which can use statistical machine learning to make probabilistic predictions for the management of obesity. She will complete in 2018. Michelle also runs her own nutritional therapy clinic and in 2013 she had a book published called ‘The Food Fight’ which is aimed at primary schools. Michelle’s presentation will review:

Academically he has a Bsc Hons in Exercise Science, a Masters in Exercise Physiology. He holds industry qualifications with the CHEK (Corrective Holistic exercise Kinesiologist) Institute, the Poliquin Institute as a PICP instructor and Biosignature practitioner, AiM (Anatomy in Motion) Practioner, Functional Diagnostic Practitoner (FDN), Massage Therapist and is currently a 4th year FTE student at McTimoney College of Chiropractic. Research on movement in relation to health. Why it's important for us as Chiropractors to now prescribe movement in our practice and how movement works well with Chiropractic. There will be mentioning on Human movement potential and why we have the most movement versatility of any animal on the planet, and the benefits of this. We will discuss the reason for having a brain - movement and a chat about Sitting, and why this is as bad as smoking. |
